Nursel Gamsız Bilgin, MD, Prof. Dr. Specialist of Forensic Medicine

She completed her primary and secondary education in Istanbul. After graduating from Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine in 1995, she completed her residency training in Forensic Medicine at the Department of Forensic Medicine, Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine, between 1996 and 2000. In 2001, she was appointed Assistant Professor with the responsibility of establishing the Department of Forensic Medicine at Mersin University Faculty of Medicine. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2007 and to Professor in 2013.
She is a member of the Association of Forensic Medicine Specialists and was appointed to its Executive Board in 2025. She has authored numerous publications in the fields of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Sciences, including contributions to national and international journals and books.
She currently continues her academic, educational, and clinical duties at the Department of Forensic Medicine, Mersin University Faculty of Medicine, where she is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, research, and forensic outpatient services.

She graduated from Ankara University, Department of Physics Engineering, in 1998 and completed her postgraduate studies in the same department. She is Turkey's first female Forensic Ballistics Expert and has contributed to the training of many ballistics experts. In 2019, she became an Associate Professor in the Department of Forensic Sciences at Üsküdar University and was promoted to Professor in 2024. She currently serves as the Deputy Director of the Institute of Addiction and Forensic Sciences at Üsküdar University and as the Head of the Department of Criminal Justice.
Her fields of study include Forensic Sciences, Criminalistics, Forensic Physics, Bloodstain Pattern Analysis, Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Ballistics, Firearms and Toolmarks Examinations, Cartridgecase and Bullet Examinations. She has published her work in national and international journals and has presented at various congresses, symposiums, and conferences.

Murat Nihat Arslan, MD, Prof. Dr. Specialist of Forensic Medicine

Prof. Dr. Murat Nihat Arslan graduated from Trakya University Faculty of Medicine in 2003. Following the completion of his residency training at the Council of Forensic Medicine of Türkiye, he obtained the title of Specialist in Forensic Medicine in 2009 with his thesis entitled “Crime Scene Reconstruction through Bloodstain Pattern Analysis.”
Throughout his professional career at the Council of Forensic Medicine, he served in the Morgue Department, the Fourth Specialized Board of Forensic Medicine, and the General Assembly of Forensic Medicine. He was appointed Head of the Autopsy Division of the Morgue Department in 2016 and subsequently served as President of the Morgue Department between 2017 and 2022. During this period, he was actively involved in forensic autopsy practice, human identification, mass fatality incidents, bloodstain pattern analysis, autopsy standardization, and forensic reporting.
In December 2019, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor in Forensic Medicine. Prof. Arslan has authored numerous national and international scientific publications, books, and book chapters, and has been invited to speak at a wide range of academic and professional meetings. His research and educational activities focus on forensic autopsy, bloodstain pattern analysis, the evaluation of death cases, medical malpractice, and disaster victim identification.
Since November 2025, he has been serving as Professor and Chair of the Department of Forensic Medicine at Yeditepe University Faculty of Medicine.

Neylan Ziyalar, Prof. Dr., Forensic Scientist

Prof. Dr. Neylan Ziyalar received her undergraduate degree from the Department of Educational Sciences, Faculty of Letters, Istanbul University. She subsequently completed her master's and doctoral studies at the Institute of Forensic Sciences, Istanbul University.
She is currently a faculty member in the Department of Social Sciences at the Institute of Forensic Sciences and Legal Medicine, Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa. Her research focuses on child abuse and neglect, forensic interviewing, and eyewitness testimony.
Prof. Ziyalar has supervised nearly seventy master's and doctoral theses and has authored numerous national and international publications in her areas of expertise..

Doç. Dr. Kenan Kaya

After completing his medical school education at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 2009, he completed his compulsory service at Tokat Turhal State Hospital. In 2015, he became a Forensic Medicine specialist at Çukurova University, Department of Forensic Medicine. After working at the Forensic Medicine Institute Adana Group Presidency for about 4 years, he started working as a lecturer at Çukurova University, Department of Forensic Medicine in 2019. He received the title of Associate Professor in March 2022 and currently works as a faculty member at Çukurova University, Department of Forensic Medicine. He is a member of the Çukurova University Support Board against Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault. He gives forensic medicine courses to students of the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Dentistry and the Institute of Addiction and Forensic Sciences. He is the author of many papers at national and international scientific meetings and the co-author of many articles and book chapters. Private work areas; Autopsy, forensic traumatology, medical malpractice, sexual assaults, violence against women, child abuse and age estimation are the areas.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mahmut Şerif Yıldırım graduated from Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine in 2012, earning the title of Medical Doctor. He completed his residency in Forensic Medicine at Hacettepe University between 2013 and 2018. He then pursued doctoral studies in forensic biology and was awarded the title of Doctor of Philosophy in Forensic Biology at Ankara University Institute of Forensic Sciences in 2022. Between 2019 and 2024, he served as a lecturer at Afyonkarahisar University of Health Sciences, and in 2024 he was promoted to Associate Professor. Since 2024, he has been working as a faculty member in the Department of Forensic Medicine at Uşak University Faculty of Medicine. His research interests include fostering a culture of reproducible research in forensic sciences, forensic biology, the application of vibrational spectroscopy in forensic medicine and forensic psychiatry, and postmortem interval estimation.

Doç. Dr. Halil İlhan Aydoğdu

Halil İlhan Aydoğdu graduated from Afyon Kocatepe University Faculty of Medicine. He completed his residency training in the Department of Forensic Medicine at Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Medicine and became a forensic medicine specialist in 2019. After his residency, he worked at the Council of Forensic Medicine in Istanbul. He currently serves as an Associate Professor at the Department of Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Giresun University, where he also acts as the head of the department. His research interests include forensic traumatology, disability assessment, malpractice, forensic psychiatry, experimental forensic models, and the use of artificial intelligence in forensic sciences. He has published numerous articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals and contributed to several scientific book chapters. He is a member of the Forensic Medicine Specialists Association and the Association of Forensic and Clinical Toxicology.

Can Çalıcı, PhD, Assoc. Prof., Forensic Scientist

Associate Professor Can Çalıcı is a faculty member in the Department of Social Sciences at the Institute of Forensic Sciences and Legal Medicine, Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa. He teaches courses in criminology, victimology, and penology at the institute.
His research, conducted both nationally and internationally, focuses on domestic violence and violence against women, crime and media, and penal populism. Most recently, as a Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Faculty Member at George Mason University in the United States, he conducted research on intimate partner violence against women within immigrant communities.
Dr. Çalıcı has contributed to the academic literature through his research and publications in the fields of criminology, victimology, and violence studies.

Burak Taştekin, MD, Forensic Medicine Specialist
Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Forensic Medicine, Ankara, Türkiye
Born in Nevşehir, he completed his primary and secondary education in his hometown. After graduating from Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 2014, he fulfilled his compulsory medical service at Nevşehir State Hospital between 2014 and 2016.
In 2017, he began his residency training in the Department of Forensic Medicine at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine and completed his specialization in 2021, earning the title of Specialist in Forensic Medicine. Following his appointment to Ankara Bilkent City Hospital through the compulsory service placement system, he played an active role in the establishment of the Forensic Medicine Clinic. He also served as the Administrative Director of the clinic between 2023 and 2024.
As of November 2024, he has been appointed as a faculty member in the Department of Forensic Medicine at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine. His professional and research interests include forensic document examination, forensic thanatology, and forensic psychiatry.
He is married and has two children.

Ezgi Ildırım, MD, Forensic Medicine Specialist

Dr. Ezgi Ildırım completed her undergraduate studies in 2009 in the Psychological Counseling and Guidance Program at Boğaziçi University, her master’s degree in 2013, and her doctorate in 2018 at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Social Sciences Program, Istanbul University. In 2021, she was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at İstinye University, where she continues to work. Since 2022, she has been serving as the Head of the Department of Psychology at İstinye University.
She is also a member of the Psychosocial and Sexual Harassment Support Unit at İstinye University, Deputy Director of the Center for Gender and Women’s Studies, and Deputy Director of the Neuroscience Research and Application Center. Her areas of expertise include gender-based violence, forensic interviewing techniques, children in the forensic system and children’s rights, cybercrime, and forensic neuroscience.

Kubilay Kınoğlu, MD, PhD, Forensic Medicine Specialist
Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Forensic Medicine, Türkiye
Born in Kahramanmaraş, he completed his primary and secondary education in his hometown. After graduating from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2005, he fulfilled his compulsory medical service in Van Province between 2006 and 2008.
He began his residency training at the Council of Forensic Medicine and completed it in 2012, earning the title of Specialist in Forensic Medicine. Since then, he has served on various specialized boards within the Council of Forensic Medicine.
In 2022, he completed his doctoral studies in the Department of Molecular Medicine at the Aziz Sancar Institute of Experimental Medicine, Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine, and was awarded a Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine.
His professional and research interests include forensic genetics, assessment of loss of earning capacity, and related areas within forensic medicine. He is married and has two children.

Yasin Koca, MD, Forensic Medicine Specialist

After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine at Ankara University in 2013, he completed his residency training at Istanbul University–Cerrahpaşa, Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine. Since 2020, he has been serving on the 3rd Specialized Board of the Council of Forensic Medicine. His areas of expertise include disability and impairment assessment, disability retirement evaluations, occupational diseases, the application of artificial intelligence in forensic sciences, and forensic document examination. He is a member of the Association of Forensic Medicine Specialists, the Association of Forensic Document Examiners, and the Istanbul Medical Chamber.
