Issue Description

Dear Forensic Scientists,
Forensic medicine, as a branch of the forensic sciences, is a distinctive discipline that extends beyond diagnosis and treatment, contributing to the pursuit of truth in the service of justice. In this regard, forensic practitioners bear a unique responsibility that can be characterized as a “dual obligation.” We are required not only to safeguard the rights of the individual under evaluation, but also to uphold the rights of all parties involved within the framework of justice. This delicate balance can only be maintained through adherence to scientific principles, objectivity, and a strong commitment to academic rigor. High-quality research and an evidence-based approach enhance the reliability of forensic practice, while reinforcing the scientific value of each report as a scholarly document.
The significance of this responsibility has become increasingly evident in the context of contemporary wars and conflicts. Such processes, often resulting in violations of the right to life, profoundly affect not only individuals but also the future of societies, while simultaneously hindering scientific progress and scholarly output. In this environment, the role of forensic professionals is to contribute to the protection of human rights, to identify and document violations through scientific methods, and to present the truth in an impartial manner.
Reflecting a commitment to responsible scientific inquiry, this issue presents interdisciplinary studies addressing topics such as forensic processes involving children, cases of sexual abuse, psychiatric evaluations, paraphilia, criminal behavior, and euthanasia, offering current insights into the field. These contributions also highlight the multidimensional nature of forensic sciences and underscore the importance of an interdisciplinary approach.
With the understanding that scientific integrity remains the fundamental basis for advancing the future of forensic sciences, we aim to further enhance the academic quality of our journal and to continue serving as a shared platform for the dissemination of current research in forensic medicine and forensic sciences.
Respectfully,
Prof. Dr. Halis Dokgöz
Editor-in-Chief
